Daewoong’s Introduction of the World’s First Therapeutic Agent for herpes labialis with a Recurrence Preventive Effect

Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee, Jong Wook) signed a contract with Medivir AB, Sweden (CEO Ron Long), regarding the introduction of a therapeutic agent for herpes labialis, the world’s first agent with an effect of preventing recurrence.

The agent’s quality and superiority were proven internationally by approvals from FDA and EMEA in 2009. It is being expected to be the prospective product in the future because of its differentiated effects from other therapeutic agents for herpes labialis. In the first half of this year, it was released in Sweden and Finland as the name of Xerclear, and has been well received.

This product is the world’s first complex which has both antiviral and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Other products on the current market are effective only for curing herpes labialis, because they contain only antiviral ingredient. On the other hand, Xerclear, due to its anti-inflammatory ingredient in addition to antiviral ingredient, is effective for not only healing wounds but also shortening the treatment period and preventing ulcerative herpes labialis from recurring. Moreover, its safety for patients with weakened immune and adolescents has been established.

Daewoong Pharmaceuticals will be releasing the product in the second half of next year as 5 g of cream. The product’s name is not decided yet.
