Daewoong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.(CEO : Lee, Jong-Wook) obtained the patent for the method of manufacturing a raw material of iopromide. Iopromide, one of the substances used for contrast medium, is the main ingredient of Ultravist, which is prescribed the most in Korea.

This patent, the process patent to manufacture a raw material of iopromide, is an economical method which can manufacture with high quality and high yield. Especially, as this manufacturing method satisfies the quality standards of both USP and EP, which has been revised strictly recently, the outlook on access to global market as well as domestic market seems bright. PCT(Patent cooperation treaty) was applied regarding this, and is under evaluation.

Although contrast medium market has grown rapidly with over 10% of annual growth rate due to the invigoration of physical examination including cancer screening, foreign-made products capture more than 90% of this market. However, the entrance of domestic companies such as LG Life Sciences into this market is becoming active recently following Dongkook pharmaceutical.
